Weightlifting Programs

Weightlifting programs can be made simple and easy to follow. Why stress over some complicated system.

Designing a weightlifting program can seem over whelming at times. It should not be. There is no reason to get stressed out. We already have enough stress in our lives. Here are some helpful guidelines for developing your own, easy to follow, weightlifting program.

A weightlifting program, simply put, is the sum of all the parts used in weightlifting. Below is a little summary I put together while developing this site. It just shows my thought process of how I fit things together to form a weightlifting program. This organization is nothing magical, just a way to help organize your thoughts.

 Weightlifting Program = routine + nutrition
 Routine = workouts + schedule
 Workouts = specific group of exercises done at one time
 Schedule = time of day, days per week
 Nutrition = Food + supplements
 Food = Whole foods that we eat
 Supplements = other items we use to support health and recovery like vitamins, herbs, amino acids, and the like
 Technique = how to do each exercise
 Equipment = what we use for each workout, such as free weights, machines, shoes, gloves, belts, straps, etc.

In your weightlifting program, should you do 3 or 4 sets per exercise, 8 or 12 repetitions? Should you use free weights or machines? This site will give you helpful information on things to consider when designing your very own weightlifting program.

People tend to make this a lot more complicated than it has to be. For some reason, we think that the more complicated the better. But this is just not the truth. If you are looking for general fitness, maintaining muscle strength, and maybe a little size gain, this type of weightlifting program should work for you. If you are looking for some highly technical, six day a week weightlifting program designed for competitive lifters on pharmaceutical support, this site is not for you. I do not believe those weightlifting programs are healthy long-term, so they will not be addressed on this site. Not to put down those who desire to compete or anything, but it is just not my bag of tea.

I am not arrogant enough to believe my philosophy is the end all, be all to designing a weightlifting program. There are numerous philosophies out there in the weightlifting and bodybuilding world. I am just trying to provide a common sense approach to developing a long-term, easy to follow weightlifting program for the average person to follow. The pages within this site were written to help guide you in determining your needs and in designing your very own weightlifting program.
